I got back about 1:27 AM Central Time, Monday morning. I'd been typing right along, in chat and two IMs, and suddenly nothing I typed was appearing, and then I couldn't even type, and I looked down, and none of the important status lights on my Cable Modem were lit (except for power).

Considering the cable company's automatic help line said that maintenance was being performed and my service should be restored by 5 PM (yes, PM, 16 hours later), I guess I got off lucky. (I'm convinced they pick those "promised times" by throwing a dart at a board.)

There was a chat at 12:45 AM when I left involuntarily. I was going to agree with BB that reading cyofrankie as cryofrankie was a natural trick for our brains to play, and ask cyofrankie to remind me why the C was needed in front of Yo, Frankie. I was going to work out (in IM) why I didn't appear visible to Rosie.

And then poof, 45 minutes later, nothing! I guess it got late early. Sorry I disappeared!

From what I can tell, cable Internet service is just great, except when it doesn't work -- which can vary over time and with the cable provider. For my part, I've adopted a more conservative approach: I use my trusty BlackBerry device as a wireless modem, and my wireless service from Verizon has never failed me yet; in fact, it's far more reliable than the service on my landline. The speed on the wireless modem leaves something to be desired, of course, but it's much faster than dial-up.
